2026 Next Destination Speaker Series
The City of Springboro Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) partner with the Franklin-Springboro Public Library to present the Next Destination Speaker Series that focuses on hiking and bicycling programming during the winter months.
Programs begin at 6:30 p.m. All programs are at the Springboro Performing Arts Center, 115 Wright Station Way, unless otherwise noted. These events are free; no registration is required. For more information, call 748-6183 or email Dan Boron.
Bikepacking the KATY Trail with Camee and Jordan Hart
Thursday, Feb. 19, 6:30 p.m.
Dayton locals Jordan and Camee Hart will talk about their exciting 240 mile bike journey on Missouri’s Katy Trail. They will share pictures and stories from this scenic and historic old train route that often runs alongside the great Missouri River and in parts even traces the path of famed explorers Lewis and Clark. Hear what happened when a seasoned bike tourer and a rookie head out for a multi-day bike trip. Jordan and Camee will discuss bike touring on gravel, discovering small town charms, and dining at Casey’s General Store.
Jordan is an Outdoor Recreation Coordinator for Five Rivers MetroParks helping to support cycling, backcountry and paddling programs in Dayton, Ohio the Outdoor Adventure Capital of the Midwest! He has a background in photography, is a local scout leader and has a passion for bicycle touring, logging over 10,000 miles including a ride from Owen Sound, Ontario Canada to Mobile, Alabama on the Underground Railroad Bicycle Route.
Camee is the Outreach Services Manager for Dayton Metro Library's Outreach Services Department. When she isn't driving the Bookmobile or delivering books for work, she is outside biking, hiking, canoeing, and camping. She has been a Girl Scout leader for over 7 years and has led girls backpacking, sea kayaking, skiing, and many other adventures.
Flexibility for Outdoor Adventures with Donna Gambino Tuesday, March 3
6:30 p.m. at the Springboro Library NOTE LOCATION
*Session takes place at Community Room in Springboro Public Library, 125 Park Lane
In this session Donna will discuss the importance of proper posture and flexibility for people looking to perform outdoor physical activities that require exertion and physical endurance. We will discuss how to maintain muscle and fascial health and then experience the techniques to perform while learning where you need to focus your attention to get the best results for you

Donna Gambino is a physical therapist, certified Pilates instructor and fitness author of three books, with 30 plus years’ experience in managing orthopedic pain and injury. She has run her fitness business Infinity Health Therapeutic Pilates, LLC, for 25 years, offering private training, group classes and workshops for fitness solutions to postural problems.
Conquering the Camino: Learn How To Plan Your Camino de Santiago Adventure with Andy Niekamp

Have you thought about a trek on the Camino de Santiago, but aren't sure where to start? This program will give you the knowledge and confidence to plan your own Camino adventure in Spain. This program will cover a variety of topics, such as history, the various routes, how to prepare, what to bring, lodging options, travel logistics, cultural differences, insights, and more about walking "The Way of Saint James." The French Way and the Portuguese Way, which account for 90% of all pilgrim journeys, will be emphasized. Learn why the Camino de Santiago, a thousand-year-old footpath, is often called a journey for the body, mind, and soul.
Andy "Captain Blue" Niekamp, from Kettering, Ohio, has been an adventurer for more than 30 years. This IT professional turned long-distance hiker has logged over 35,000 miles of hiking in the last 20 years, including five end-to-end hikes on the Appalachian Trail. Andy is an experienced pilgrim on Camino de Santiago pilgrim, having completed three Caminos with over 900 miles of walking in Spain and Portugal. His other long hikes include Ohio's Buckeye Trail, Florida Trail, and the Arizona Trail. Captain Blue is the founder and organizer of Dayton Hikers, a Meetup group with thousands of members. He is the Chief Adventure Officer of Outdoor Adventure Connection, a backcountry guide service. He is the author of "Captain Blue on the Blue Blazes," a popular book about his Buckeye Trail journey. His passion is organizing special hiking events, encouraging others to experience the Camino, and leading trail maintenance outings.

Relive Karen Power’s journey on the Camino de Costa Rica and meet the kind-hearted Ticos (as the Costa Ricans call themselves) who provided lodging, food and help on this hot, wet, and muddy journey. Karen Power is a retired professor, grandmother, volunteer trail maintainer, and educator at local parks. Her long-distance hikes include the 1,100-mile Florida Trail, the 1,400-mile Buckeye Trail, the 480-mile French Way of the Camino de Santiago, and others. Karen’s 3,000+ miles of long hiking has inspired a non-lucrative hobby as a freelance writer, cartoonist, and writing coach.
Bikes, E-Bikes & More: The Law of Riding & Walking Around with Steve Magas

Attorney Steve Magas returns to the Next Destination Speaker Series to provide an update on bike law. This session will be part bike law, part history lesson, with information on the emergence of e-bikes and e-motos.
Steve Magas, Ohio’s Bike Lawyer, is a Cincinnati-based attorney and bike rider. This marks Steve’s fourth presentation as part of the speaker series.

2026 Nature Walks and Hikes
See the wonder of nature as the season changes and enjoy our beautiful parks and trails! The City and Park Board sponsor nature walks led by Lynn Johnson, Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist and Springboro resident. Each walk occurs on a Sunday afternoon. Meet at 2 p.m. near the park entrance. Wear walking shoes and dress for weather. Free event, and no registration is required. Call 937-748-5774 for more information.
The spring walks are at North Park, 195 Tamarack Trail and focus on spring wildflowers and explore other seasonal changes in the natural surroundings

Aug. 30: E. Milo Beck Park: Prairie: Look at flowers. Paths are flat but there is elevation change. 2.5 miles.
Sept. 13: E. Milo Beck Park: Prairie: Look at flowers. Paths are flat but there is elevation change. 2.5 miles.
The winter walk explores how wildlife, both plants and animals, adapt to winter in Ohio
Meet at the location at 2 p.m.
Jan. 11: E. Milo Beck Park: Hike the prairie and the riparian corridor along Clear Creek.
City Walking & Biking Wellness Program Give us Ten or 30, Springboro!
Our Springboro parks and roadways are home to numerous walking and bike paths and lanes. Take advantage of the amenities in your own backyard!
1. Walk 10 miles or cycle 30 miles in one month using a tracking app of your choice. There are plenty of free apps out there.
2. Take a photo or screenshot of the mileage completed. Selfies at the parks or around town are encouraged, too!
3. Complete the form and upload your photos here by the end of the month to be eligible for prizes.
All completed forms will be entered into a drawing for fun prizes including one local restaurant gift card for every 20 entries.
You must be a Springboro resident to participate.
Community Bike Ride 2025 Schedule
Rides on City Streets
This program has concluded for the year. Look for 2026 rides to be announced in the spring.
Springboro’s Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) in partnership with three local businesses to sponsor six community bike rides on City streets. Each rider must have a helmet, front and rear bike lights and reflective clothing. A cycling orientation will be provided before the ride. All rides start at 6:30 p.m. and take roughly an hour to complete. After the ride there will be a drawing for participants and more. For more information, contact Dan Boron or call 937-748-6183.

Bike the Boro 2025
Event features bike rides, kids activities and food trucks at North Park
Each year, the City hosts Bike the Boro, Springboro’s celebration of all things biking at Springboro’s North Park, 195 Tamarack Trail. Bike the Boro includes three bike rides on the streets of Springboro followed by an expo where local bike shops, bicycle education and advocacy organizations, health and wellness organizations, public safety agencies, inflatables and others will be on hand. Bike the Boro takes place rain or shine (see Weather Updates below).
Bike the Boro is a rain or shine event, however in the event of hazardous weather—excessive heat and humidity, high winds, thunderstorms—the event and rides will be postponed. Registrants will be notified by email of any postponements the day of the event. Notifications will also be available on this page and our social media sites.
