The Springboro Performing Arts Center is featuring the work of Kamal Kumbhani. An artist reception is set for 4 – 6 p.m. Saturday, March 9.  The exhibit runs March 1-26.

Kamal has always loved art and first studied oil painting as a part-time student at the Madras School of Arts. However, she held a career in business until 2019 and then resumed painting. Her primary medium is oil painting and further study at Olde Masters Galleria led to continued growth in oil painting techniques. She is inspired by the effect of light on objects and people’s faces.

Kamal received a grant from Culture Works and attended Studio Italia in Florence, Italy to study Plein Air painting and Art History. Last July, she attended a nine-day workshop in Provence by Dr. Yves Laroque, where she studied Plein Aire painting and worked on different paintings each morning and afternoon.  Much of her work is based on her travels including paintings of cityscapes of Singapore, Seville in Spain and the White Villages.

Kumbhani earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and an MBA from the University of Madras, where she also painted as a part-time student in the Madras School of Arts.  Her work has been displayed in many area galleries.

The Gallery is located in the Performing Arts Center, 115 Wright Station Way. Exhibits change monthly. Gallery Hours are 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or by appointment by calling 937-748-5774.
